Water Saving Tip:

Change spray sprinklers to low-flow bubbler or drip systems. Shrubs and trees are ideal candidates for this type of irrigation because the water is applied directly to the root zones.

  • Description

  • Notes

This is an evergreen multi-branched shrub 5 to 6 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide. It has a rounded form, leathery green leaves, and smooth, dark red-purple bark. The flowers are bell shaped, pink, and appear April through June. Dark brown to black fruit follows. An attractive specimen. A Utah native.
Difficult to establish; resents over-watering. Plant in coarse-textured, well drained soils. Slow to moderate growth; periodic irrigation; and no pruning.
