  • Notes

This ginkgo grows slightly smaller than the species, about 40 to 50 feet tall and 20 to 30 feet wide. 'Autumn Gold' is an all-male cultivar with a symmetrical, broadly spreading habit. Leaves turn a uniform golden yellow in autumn (spectacular when backlit by early morning or late afternoon sun) and persist for several weeks. When the leaves do drop, they drop rapidly, forming a golden carpet around the tree. Deciduous. 'Autumn Gold' is a male selection and produces no fruit.
Ginkgo grows best in full sun and well drained soils. It displays a tolerance for a wide range of soil types and pH, though will not grow in wet soils. Drought, heat, and salt tolerant. No pest or disease problems. It is slow growing, so patience and a long vision are necessary, but they are worthy of the wait.
