This tall hybrid speedwell features dense, upright, terminal spikes (racemes) of dark violet-blue flowers which bloom from late May to frost. Flower spikes typically rise 8 to 12 inches above basal foliage. Wrinkled, dark green leaves are up to 2 inches long. Good fresh cut flower. 1993 Perennial Plant of the Year. Grows 18 to 24 inches tall and 12 to 18 inches wide.
Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun. Remove spent flower spikes to encourage additional bloom. Over-watering encourages powdery mildew. Pinching back new growth in the spring may encouraging heavier flowering. This sometimes acts more like an annual than a perennial, as it is sometimes short-lived.
