Prairie Skullcap grows in a neat mound of tight, upright stems and covers itself with stunning deep lavender-blue flowers in late spring. It grows about 8 inches tall and 10 to 12 inches wide, making it well suited to the front of a border, a rock garden, a sunny parkstrip, or along the outside edges of a stone path.
Grow in full sun and well drained soil. Best mulched with crushed gravel. To encourage re-seeding, don't deadhead. Requires little water once established, but With a little extra water, Scutellaria will bloom off and on through the fall. Native to the short grass prairie. Zones 4-8.
