This small shrub grows to 3 to 6 feet high and as wide. It has bright green lobed-leaves that turn red in the fall. Clusters of small, fragrant, yellow flowers appear in April and May, followed by berries that turn from yellowish orange to orange to red. Berries are edible, and birds enjoy them, too. Grows in full sun to light shade, requiring less water in the shade.

Informal in shape, prune it in late winter or early spring before flowering to control size or to tidy form. Generally, a low-maintenance choice for an informal hedge or foundation planting. Grow in well drained soil in full sun to light shade; not particular to soil type as long as it is well drained.
