Water Saving Tip:

Change spray sprinklers to low-flow bubbler or drip systems. Shrubs and trees are ideal candidates for this type of irrigation because the water is applied directly to the root zones.

  • Description

  • Notes

This lovely, large deciduous tree grows about 50 feet tall or more, and 30 feet or more wide. It has unique, large, tulip-shaped bluish-green leaves that turn golden yellow in the fall. Tulip-shaped blossoms appear late May through mid-June; petals are yellow green and the inside of the corolla base is orange. There is a lovely specimen near the north-east corner of Liberty Park.
Grow in full sun and well-drained soils, ideally loamy fertile ones. Not well suited for very hot, dry sites, but great in lawns or mixed borders.
