A Utah native. A graceful ornamental grass. A clumping grass with very narrow blades, green during the summer months and turning tawny in the autumn. Inflorescence are open panicles on long, graceful spikes. When it catches late day light, they nearly sparkle. Grows 12 to 18 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. Seed eating birds love this grass.
Grow in full to part sun in a wide range of soil types, as long as it is well draining. Good choice for sandy or coarse soils. Very alkaline tolerant. Xeric once established. Also listed as Achnatherum hymenoides and Stipa hymenoides.
