Variegated Dogwood

Common name:Variegated Dogwood
Botanical name:Cornus alba 'Elegantissima'

This dogwood has the same lovely red wood that is a standout in the winter garden, but with grey-green leaves with irregular creamy-white margins that gives it a luminous look. It grows about 6 to 8 feet tall, and forms a thicket of blood-red stems. White spring flowers form in clusters, followed by blue berries enjoyed by birds. Partners well with viburnums, hydrangeas, and snowberry. Use in shrub or foundation borders, or as an informal hedge.

Halls Honeysuckle

Common name:Halls Honeysuckle
Botanical name:Lonicera japonica 'Halliana'

Halls Honeysuckle is a vigorous, hardy, twining vine with deep green, oval leaves and fragrant white flowers that change their color to yellow. It is good as a groundcover or for covering fences. Flowers June through October; there are showier honeysuckle, but none as fragrant, except maybe 'Purpurea'. Can grow 15 to 30 feet, or more. Deciduous.

Forsythia

Common name:Forsythia
Botanical name:Forsythia x intermedia

Truly a harbinger of spring, the bright yellow flowers of Forsythia are a welcome sign that spring is near. Forsythia is a deciduous shrub with an upward arching habit. Yellow spring flowers are followed by leaves of soft green that take on a reddish hue in the fall. Size varies with variety, so check the label. Grows best in full sun, though will tolerate part shade. Great shrub for borders and is an excellent cut flower.

Water Saving Tip:

Even though it's hot, your lawn only needs to be watered twice a week to stay healthy.

And don't water the whole lawn for a brown spot—drag out a hose.
